THE INCREDIBLE IMMUNITY BOOSTER-THIRIKADUGAM KASHAYAM

         

              ‘Kashayam’, on hearing this word, the first thing that comes to our mind is it’s peppery taste. And  I guess many of you would skip this post before reading it! Am I right? Just kidding…

                  Many of us might have gone through some sweet memories in our childhood…whenever our mama or grandma gave us some herbal Kashayam(herbal spices drink),we might have ran away from there to avoid it…then mama or grandma might have ran after us to make us drink the kashayam. These are all interesting stories…

                  It’s human nature to prefer tasty foods and we often try to avoid bitter or peppery foods or drinks. But the human body needs a mix of all taste of food for healthy life.

                  Kashayam means water decoction or water extract of a single herb or group of herbs. It is used to treat or prevent illness like indigestion, cough and cold, etc. It would be great to know the health benefits of them. There are different ways to prepare kashayam. Here, we are to see about the Thirikadugam kashayam.

THIRIKADUGAM

                 Thirikadugam is the traditional Ayurvedic medicine with a combination of three ingredients Dried ginger(sukku), black pepper(milaku) and Long pepper(thippili) in equal proportion.

                    

                     

SUKKU MILAKU THIPPILI KASHAYAM

INGREDIENTS:

            The main ingredients in this kashayam are

                -Dried ginger(sukku)

                -Black pepper(milaku)

   -Long pepper(thippili)

   -palm candy(Pana karkandu)

  

   Smash a small amount of dry ginger, crush the pepper and the long pepper. You need to remove the skin in dried ginger as it is not good to take. Don’t powder it too much. Add all the ingredients in 300 ml of water. Allow it to boil for 10 minutes and allow it to settle down for 5 minutes. Then filter it and take it weekly twice or thrice.

KARUVURAR VADHAKAVIYAM

                 The importance and health benefits of taking Thirikadugam is described in the ancient Tamil literature ‘Karuvurar Vadhakaviyam’ written by the Karuvurar, one among the 18 siddhars. Karuvurar siddhar lived in Karuvoor in Tamilnadu, now it is called as Karur.
