Is it good to sleep as soon as after food?

IS IT GOOD TO SLEEP AS SOON AS AFTER FOOD? 

          

     Are you having the practice of going to sleep as soon as having food? Are you suffering from sleeping troubles and digestive disorders?

     Then its time to check the gap between your food time and bed time.

     Longer the gap between food and bed time, better the health.

FEELING OF SLEEPINESS

      Its human nature to feel sleepy as soon as having a good food either it’s a meal or dinner.

        A study at Japan’s Kyorin University says that the flow of blood to the small intestine abundantly increases and as the blood is pumped into the stomach to fuel digestion, a corresponding drop in blood flow to the brain could trigger feeling of sleepiness.

        Another study states that skipping breakfast leads to heavy burden on the body after lunch that causes greater change in the blood flow that leads to sleepiness.

         Over eating or having too much of food than the required quantity of the body or eating a big meal would also lead to sleepiness.

         A high fat, high carb meal leads to sleepiness as well as obesity.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GO TO BED RIGHT AWAY AFTER YOUR FOOD?

DISTURBED SLEEP

         Having a big dinner particularly the spicy food can be the one of the reasons for scary or nightmare dreams.

       Going to bed when your belly is full or the undigested food can cause acid reflux which in turn disturbs the sleep.

OBESITY

         Obesity is a disorder involving excessive body fat that increases the risk of health problems.

       If you go to sleep directly, your body cannot burn off the calories and it finally increases the body fat which leads to weight gain.

DIGESTIVE DISORDERS

       Going to sleep before the food get digested causes digestive disorders like heartburns, gastroenteritis, ulcers, etc.

INCREASES THE RISK OF DIABETES

         Having food before bed causes weight gain, which indirectly increase the risk of diabetes.

 

WHEN TO GO TO BED AFTER FOOD?

          Do you know that Health specialist recommend waiting at least 3 hours after food to go to bed?

          Yes, it takes 3 hours body time to digest your food so that you need not suffer from digestive problems and other health related issue.

         So, the advisable time gap between your food and sleep should be 2 to 3 hours.

THINGS YOU CAN TRY AFTER FOOD BEFORE BEDTIME 

            

       -A light pace or a slow walk would help you to have a good digestion.

      -Relaxing chat with your family

      -Pleasure reading before bed (particularly magazines of short articles)

      -Listening to pleasant music

         Many people choose to watch Television and other electronic gadgets before bedtime. Once in a while its fine to go with. But regularly it is not encouraged to use electronic devices before going to bed as it disturbs your sleep.

         For a healthy life, it’s better to have at least 2 – 3 hours gap between your food and bedtime.
