ENERGETIC PRANA MUDRA



Yoga Mudra is the technique of changing or transforming the energy flow in the body using hand gestures that brings your body energy to ideal arrangement or balance.

Mudra is a hand gesture that guides the energy flow to specific areas of the brain. Regular practice of mudra develops a connection with the brain pattern that controls the unconscious reflexes in various areas of the body.

BALANCING THE FIVE ELEMENTS

The five elements (Panchabhutas) build up our body, which is represented by five fingers in our hand.

·     Fire – Thumb finger

·     Air – Index finger

·     Space – Middle finger

·     Earth – Ring finger

·     Water – Little finger

Our body is open to various diseases if there is variation in one or more of these elements. Consistent practice of yoga mudra balances the five elements in our body promoting physical and mental health. We are here to explore the benefits of Prana Mudra.

PRANA MUDRA

Prana is the only life-force within our body. When you feel tired and need extra boost of energy, Prana mudra works great for you.

It is also known as “Kapha Karak Mudra” as it increases the Kapha in the body and “Pitta-Nashak Mudra” as it decreases the Pitta dosha in the body.

HOW TO DO

·     Sit comfortably (Vajrasana or Padmasana or Sukhasana) and close your eyes.

·     Focus on your breathe and gently touch the tip of the ring and little finger with the tip of the thumb.

·     And keep the other two fingers extended(index and middle)

·     Hold this gesture in both the hands for 15-20 minutes.

·     Then gently release the mudra by stretching fingers straight.  

In Prana Mudra, the elements water, earth and fire are united to activate pranic energy.

BEST TIME TO DO

It is best to do Prana mudra on an empty stomach at the time of sunrise facing the sun. In the order of asana-pranayama-meditation, It should be practiced after performing asana and pranayama and before starting meditation.

DURATION

Prana Mudra can be practiced for a minimum of 15 minutes to maximum of 45 minutes. It should be practiced regularly with other yogic exercises for best results.

PRECAUTIONS

-Don’t practice this mudra if you have excess Kapha(cold and cough) in the body.

-Avoid practicing Prana Mudra after sunset as it would disturb the sleep by triggering the metabolic activities of the body at night.
